Senior Lighting Designer at Lightstyles Debbie Bernstein was recently awarded the designation of Certified Lighting Consultant (CLC). Bernstein has worked with Lightstyles, located in Costa Mesa, Calif, for the past six years in the design department.
A native New Yorker, Bernstein has an extensive background in creative design. She studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Media Arts. She began her career at one of the largest advertising agencies in the world, McCann Erickson International in Manhattan. There, she was employed as an Art Director and created advertising for blue-chip clients such as Coca-Cola and Nabisco.
Upon relocating to California with her husband, Seth, Bernstein began working as a freelance graphic designer and mural artist while raising her two children, Mara and Max. Debbie later returned to school to study interior design, earning her Associate of Science degree at Orange Coast College, which eventually led to her current position in architectural lighting design.
The CLC is the highest designation offered by ALA. To earn this designation, individuals must meet four key requirements: earn the ALA Lighting Specialist designation, complete a certain number of board-approved education courses, complete the CLC application form and successfully pass the CLC blueprint exam.
